Author Visit Information
For Book Talks
It’s important that students read the book to be discussed before the visit. This creates a better atmosphere for engagement and great discussions. Share details about Antoinette H. Jones and her book with the students. The more prepared the students are for the visit, the more excited they’ll be to meet the author and the more engaged they will be during the event. Help students prepare questions to ask the author during any planned open discussion time.
For In-person Appearances
In-person speaking fees are a minimum of $150 per hour, which includes 15 minutes for book signing, if applicable, and do not include travel expenses (for presentation more than 20 miles from Washington, DC). Virtual visits are also offered and can be formatted in various ways, such as a presentation, Q&A session, interview-style, etc., with a minimum fee of $100 per 45 minutes. Think about your audience and which type of format might be best. Additional fees occur for interactive presentations and/or games. For book talks, a purchase of a classroom set of books is required.
Please pay Antoinette H. Jones on the day of the event. You may make payments on the author’s website (antoinettehjones.com) or by check. Ask your guest author for any forms your school may need to process their payment well before the presentation, so that you may provide Antoinette H. Jones with payment on the day of the appearance.
Please do not leave the author alone with the audience during the presentation. A representative from your faculty or staff should be available to guide and assist the author throughout the presentation.
Please notify the author if there have been any occurrences of a communicable or contagious illness with a person or area to be occupied by the author within the 24 hours prior to the visit/ presentation.
Cancellation Policy
Sometimes, unforeseen circumstances arise and the scheduled author visit needs to be cancelled or rescheduled. If this happens, the following policies apply:
Cancellation by the Host
If the hosting organization needs to cancel the author's visit for any reason, they must provide written notice to the author as soon as possible.
If the cancellation occurs:
More than 30 days before the scheduled visit: we will fully refund all payments made.
Less than 30 days, but more than 7 days before the scheduled visit: we will charge a
cancellation fee of $50, and refund any payments made minus the cancellation fee.
Less than 7 days before the scheduled visit: we will charge the full speaking fee and we will not refund any payments made.
Cancellation by the Author
If the author needs to cancel the visit due to illness, emergency, or other unavoidable circumstances, they will provide written notice to the hosting organization as soon as possible. If the cancellation occurs, we will work with the host to reschedule the visit. If an additional date cannot be agreed upon, we will ensure any payments made are fully refunded.
Force Majeure
In the event of force majeure circumstances, such as natural disasters, government restrictions, or other events beyond the control of both parties, neither party shall be held liable for damages that may result from the cancellation or rescheduling of the author visit.
Communication of Cancellations
Both parties agree to communicate any cancellations or changes in schedule promptly and in writing to ensure clarity and avoid misunderstandings.
